In this article we compare the historical returns between two famous Scotch distilleries (Brora & Springbank) and two Japanese distilleries (Karuizawa & Hanyu) together with the S&P 500 Total Return Index in euros.
Karuizawa and Hanyu have both significantly outperformed Brora and Springbank in a historical perspective. Moreover, Springbank has not even been able to keep up with the S&P 500 in returns. From a total portfolio perspective, Japanese whiskey also adds significant value to an stocks-only portfolio or an already Scotch whisky portfolio due to a very low correlation between returns.
