If we would only look at the average return of the 40 Spirits Invest Indexes, we would be going to the fridge looking for a champagne bottle. The average return for September 2023 was -0.1%. For comparison, in august the average return was -2.6%. However, if we take a deeper dive in the data we see that a couple of indexes generated a tremendous return that mask the overall bad sentiment in the spirits market.
Only 11 of the 39 Spirits Invest indexes were green, whereas 25 indexes fell compared to the end of August 2023. Four indexes were unchanged last month.
